Reflexology
What is Reflexology: Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands, and ears, which correspond to every part, gland, and organ of the body. Through application of firm pressure on these reflexes, Reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and helps promote the natural function of the related areas of the body.
How does Reflexology work: Reflexology work with our autonomic nervous system. There are 7,500 nerve endings in each side of the foot, and a total of 17,000 touch receptors and free nerve endings in each hand and ear. These nerve endings have extensive interconnections through the spinal cord and brain with all areas of the body. When these nerve endings are stimulated, they send calming messages to the central nerve system, which in turn, signals the body to adjust tension levels.
Benefits: Reflexology is very effective in reducing stress and pain by putting the client into a “parasympathetic” aka “rest and digest” mode of the nervous system. Reflexology creates total relaxation, brings internal organs and their system into a state of optimum functioning, and increases blood supply (which means added oxygen and nutrients!) and waste removal.
In many countries around the world including England, Germany, Denmark and China, Reflexology is widely practiced and is well recognized as an honored complementary health discipline.
Reflexology modalities
Foot Reflexology: Series of firm and precise pressure are applied to the whole surface area of the feet to cover the whole system of the body nestled in the feet. If you have not tried reflexology, I would recommend foot reflexology first, because it’s very responsive and most popular! Foot reflexology soothes your tired and achy feet that are under constant physical pressure.
Hand Reflexology: A healing energy can travel from one person’s hand to another quickly, thus it’s powerful to release mental, and emotional stress. We shake hands, we stroke a person’s hand to comfort and we lay our hands on to heal! Ideal if you have injuries, infections or sensitivities in the feet.
Facial/Ear Reflexology: It stimulates the nerve endings in the face and ears. It calms your nervous system fast because of its close proximity to the brain. Some benefits of facial reflexology include improved lymphatic system, improved facial muscle tone, some anti-aging effects and rejuvenation.
